COURSEWORK & INTEREST

PCC PSYCHOLOGY COURSE

After taking the Peer to Peer elective at Westridge for a year, I was really interested in learning more about the science behind how the mind works. I decided to enroll in a college level psychology course at PCC. I learned so much from the course that I am so excited to apply to my work in P2P.

LEADERSHIP COUNSIL & CO-HEAD

Since 10th grade, I've been a P2P member, which is a peer counseling group on campus to provide emotional support for students. After taking P2P, I have learned how to better support kids and even parents with empathetic, active listening. For 12th grade, I applied and was chosen to be on the Leadership Council and a Co-Head for P2P.

WHAT I LEARNED

AFTER TAKING THE P2P ELECTIVE & THE PSYCHOLOGY COURSE AT PCC, BOTH SHAPED THE WAY I INTERACTED WITH CHILDREN IN MY VOLUNTEER JOURNEY FOR MADHATTER KNITS AND CHLA AND ALSO PROVIDED ME MOST OF THE BACKGROUND THAT I HAVE ON THE SCIENCE BEHIND CHILDCARE. I REALIZED HOW MENTAL HEALTH SIGNIFICANTLY IMPACTS OUR DAILY LIVES, ESPECIALLY DURING PANDEMIC AS EVERYONE IS ISOLATED FROM FRIENDS AND FAMILY. I BEGAN TO THINK OF WAYS IN WHICH I COULD IMPLEMENT AND HELP PROVIDE A BETTER WELLBEING FOR CHILDREN AND TEENS. I BEGAN TO DESIGN AND CREATE AN APP TO HELP PROMOTE MENTAL HEALTH AND EMOTIONAL WELLBEING.

iMATTER

iMatter is a mobile app I helped create and design that promotes mental health and wellbeing through building awareness, different recommended mechanisms, daily assessments, and support sites.

The process of creating this app was amazing because I was able to use my knowledge from P2P and my college level psychology course to determine the functions and mechanisms I would implement.
